The role of NMN in delaying intestinal aging and making the intestine younger has been confirmed by a number of studies.
1. Improve intestinal barrier function:
The study found that NMN was able to restore the integrity of the epithelial barrier in the colon and promote stem cell regeneration. By increasing the number of goblet cells and improving intestinal mucosal barrier function, NMN helps prevent harmful molecules such as pathogens from entering the bloodstream and protect intestinal health.
In a study on mice, mice in the NMN group showed fewer acute and chronic inflammatory cells in the intestinal mucosa lamina propria and a clear intestinal wall structure, compared with the control group without NMN supplementation, showing better intestinal health.
2. Recombinant gut microbiome:
The analysis showed that NMN can increase the diversity of intestinal species, change fecal metabolites, and then reorganize the intestinal microbiome of elderly mice. This change is essential for intestinal homeostasis and helps maintain intestinal health.
In one study, there was an increase in beneficial bacteria in the NMN-treated group compared to a control group not supplemented with NMN, while 118 metabolites were upregulated and 79 were downregulated, changes that suggest that NMN has a positive effect on gut microbiota and metabolism.
3. Improve gene expression and stem cell viability:
Studies have found that NMN supplementation can promote intestinal stem cell proliferation and delay intestinal aging by increasing Lgr5 gene expression. Stem cells play a key role in maintaining gut health, and their ability to proliferate and differentiate declines with age, and NMN is able to improve this.
Researchers at Keio University in Japan found in the study that compared with young mice, the expression of Lgr5 gene in elderly mice was significantly reduced, and after supplementing NMN, the expression level of Lgr5 gene in elderly mice was increased, and the proliferation ability of intestinal stem cells was improved.
4. Improve intestinal cell function:
NMN is also able to improve intestinal cell function and reduce inflammation and oxidative stress. By up-regulating the expression of intestinal deacetylase SIRT3/SIRT6, antioxidant enzyme related genes SOD2 and Nrf2/HO-1, NMN enhances the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory ability of intestinal cells.
A study using a D-galactose-induced intestinal cell senescence model found that NMN reduced oxidative stress levels in senescent cells and improved intestinal cell barrier function.
5. Remodel intestinal flora diversity:
NMN is able to reshape the diversity of the gut microbiota and increase the number of beneficial bacteria, which is essential for maintaining gut health. The balance of intestinal flora is directly related to the health of the intestinal tract and even the human body, and the supplement of NMN helps to maintain this balance.
By improving intestinal barrier function, reorganizing intestinal microbiome, enhancing gene expression and stem cell viability, improving intestinal cell function, and reshaping intestinal flora diversity, NMN delays intestinal aging and makes the intestine younger.
